White Beach, one of the most attractive beaches in the Island of Boracay in Aklan is not only a lovely stretch of powdery white sand against crystal clear blue waters, but it is also the commercial center of the island, playing home to an array of commercial establishments such as hotels, restaurants, and malls. It is Boracay’s biggest attraction for swimming, snorkelling and other water sport activities.
The long beach is divided into three areas: Station 1 – the northernmost part and has the widest beachfront where the priciest hotels and resorts are located; Station 2 – the commercial and geographical center of White Beach where everything happens. Shopping, partying, eating, etc. dominates this part of the beach making it the most crowded and noisiest; and Station 3 – the southernmost section, generally quieter than Station 2, least developed and lowest priced.
The entire 4 km stretch of White Beach from Station 1 to Station 3 is open to the public, so one can relax and/or swim wherever they like irrespective of hotel location.
How to Reach White Beach
White Beach is easy to find. It is at the western region of the island. From Caticlan, Aklan, small boats that travel to the three stations can bring tourists to White Beach. Tricycles and jeepneys are also available to bring tourists to White Beach.
White Beach Activities
White Beach has powdery-fine white sand and turquoise water which make this very popular among tourists. The gently sloping seabed is ideal for swimming and snorkelling and other water sports like scuba diving, windsurfing, kite surfing, jet skiing, parasailing, cliff diving, fishing, Banana boat riding or a Glass bottom boat cruise.
Boat tours. This is the best way to know and explore Boracay and its interesting dive sites and beaches. A native sailboat called ‘paraw’ is usually used to go around the island.
Skimboarding. This is a new fun sport for kids and entertainment for older for people. It is getting popular and is a welcome new attraction in White Beach. Watching will give a pleasurable experience. Skimboards are available for rent at several places along White Beach.
Massage/Spa. Local women usually approach tourists along White Beach offering a massage, which they can do on the spot, right where you are – on a towel laid out on the beach. These are the freelance massage therapists which tourists on a budget will prefer.
White Beach also has several “Massage Stations” – a more organized set-up; masseurs that have their mats set up in the station which is usually open as long as there are customers around but in general starts to shut down just after sunset. There is another great outdoor massage station in the beach area of Nigi Nigi Beach Resort, where they have two tables set up. Draped booths or open – depends on the customer.
There are also several smaller/mid-range spas in Boracay that offer a menu including facials, massages, and body scrubs but not quite considered a full spa in terms of facilities, as in most hotels in Boracay.
Parasailing. A good way to relax while exploring the island’ beaches and snorkel sites.
Dining and Partying at White Beach. Dining, nightlife and partying happens at the White Beach with its famous restaurants and clubs or bars. The beachfront can become dancefloor by sunset.
